I’m honestly running out of adjectives to describe how absolutely wonderful the whole of Laura’s home furnishing range is! This fantastic gunstock lamp and pheasant print shade is just one of a variety of items I’ve purchased from her to furnish my new home in a hunting/shooting style chic. Every item is well packaged for transit and arrived safely at my home address in a timely manner. Now to talk about this gunstock lamp. Firstly, I was disappointed and saddened to see the low rating that had been given by one person who had bought it; clearly they were expecting some kind of mass produced flawless item with zero character or history attached to it which is a pity as I think every gunstock tells a story about the previous owners and the marks or scratches on the stock are akin to the fine lines, wrinkes & grey hairs we gradually accumulate as we live our human lives with each reflecting our uniqueness in this vast universe.
I was really excited to see signs of use or wear and tear on the gunstock base of the lamp and pondered on the capabilities of the ‘gun’ who owned and used it. Were they a lady gun like myself? holding her own in the field in a largely male dominated environment revelling in the whispered praises overhead from her fellow guns after taking a particularly challenging ‘high bird’? Dressed in her best tweeds & sporting one of Laura’s fabulous pheasant thermal base layer tops under her shirt & tie, she stands on her peg poised & loaded ready to take her shot as her faithful spaniel waits patiently & steadily beside her ears pricked, eyes looking to the skies for the thrill of bringing home the retrieve to her mistress. The whoops of the beaters growing ever closer accompanied by the rhythmical tapping of Hazel and blackthorn beating sticks against the brambles and scrub; suddenly she hears the bliss filled cry of ‘over!!!’ followed by the striking silhouette of a Reeves cock pheasant taking flight at the flushing point! Pulse racing she releases the safety, anticipating the flight line of Mr Reeves perfectly. She aims, squeezes the trigger & feels the powerful recoil, absorbing it easily into her shoulder & watching the sunlight reflecting off the striking plumage as the cock tumbles to the ground! ‘Back Purdey!’ She whispers to her liver spanner who takes off like a pocket rocket tail wagging like a metronome as she quarters left & right tracking the scent to find her prize. Purdey grasps the cock gently in her soft mouth & delivers it carefully into her mistress’s hand tail wagging furiously as she spits out a few stray feathers onto the ground at her feet before taking position for praise by her owners side ready and waiting for the next sharp shot! Then there was the time a muntjac broke cover on a drive, panicked by the guns and heading straight for her tweed clad legs! Her only defence was the stock of the gun which sustained a deep graze to the wood as the munty clattered past, his tiny antlers making contact with the stock leaving a ‘war’ wound on the wood which would serve as an anecdote to be told many times over a sloe gin at elevenses amongst the other guns when they enquired as to how the damage occurred. Nicks and scratches on wood near the hallmarks of a life well lived and I for one would not trade my gunstock lamp with its unique historical imperfections in for all the tea in China! If you’re looking for some mass produced pristine catalogue rubbish to adorn your home with then this lamp won’t be your style; however if you love to look at an item and wonder about its history whilst marveling at it’s uniqueness & weathered beauty then you should definitely take a shot at buying this gunstock lamp which will no doubt ‘trigger’ a spending spree of epic proportions in Laura’s lovely online store. If you ‘recoil’at the thought of following the crowd or having a friend comment they have the same lighting as you then forget ordinary, take ‘stock’ of your life choices and add this gorgeous gunstock lamp and shade to basket. Before you ‘choke’ at the prospect of another dull lighting purchase from well known DIY stores you Beretta have a rethink and bring this gunstock lamp of Laura’s into your home :) It’s a Win Winchester situation even if your other half is Browning, I mean…frowning about the cost ;) This lamp will look really Puurdey in your lounge, dining room, study or office …it’s a Musto have ladies and gentlemen Buy! Buy! Bye!
Bought this lamp as an anniversary present for my husband. He was over the moon, such a lovely well made piece, great customer service too, thank you ❤️
Slightly disappointed - sorry! The gun stock is quite marked and for the price, assumed the lamp base would be felted to avoid scratching. Delivery was clunky and arrived despite messaging the seller and delivery company.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed, we have taken your useful comments on board and have now added small rubberised protectors to the bottom of our lamps to avoid scratching.
Most of our gun stocks and muskets carry some age, so there will be natural marks that have appeared over time from their past use.
Always happy to provide a replacement or refund if contacted
Thank you
